Yosemite Fire Destroys 25 Homes
MARIPOSA, Calif. — Authorities now say the fire raging near Yosemite National Park in California has destroyed 25 homes and forced 300 others to be evacuated.
Thousands of homes remain in danger.
The fire is tearing through a steep, dry river canyon and is burning almost completely out of control.
Yosemite is about 12 miles from the flames and remains open but some visitors have already packed their bags because of the fire and smoky haze it’s creating.
A woman from Holland vacationing with her three children says it’s hard to have a relaxed visit. In her words, “If you’re looking for tension you visit New York City. This here is a whole other kind of tension.”
