WSU extends contract of head volleyball coach Jen Greeny

Greeny led Washington State to their fourth consecutive NCAA Championship Tournament appearance during the 2019 season, where the Cougars ultimately fell to the No. 20 ranked San Diego Toreros at Hawai’i.
Washington State Volleyball saw another year filled with player accolades, most notably from freshman Magda Jehlářová, who was named the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Freshman of the Year. Magda also was selected to the AVCA All-America Second Team, along with being named the AVCA Pacific North Region Freshman of the Year, and earning a Pacific North Region First Team nod as well. The lone freshman to earn All-Pac-12 First Team honors, Magda led the conference during the regular season in total block, and in blocks per set. She also became the first-ever Washington State volleyball student-athlete to win the Pac-12/10 Freshman of the Year award. Jehlářová went on to finish the regular season second in the Pac-12 in block assists, and second in solo blocks as well.
The Cougars saw numerous additional student-athletes pick up season awards as well including All-Pac-12 Honorable Mentions in senior Alexis Dirige, and freshman Hannah Pukis, Pac-12 All-Freshman selections in Pia Timmer, Pukis, and Jehlářová, and three named to the Pac-12 Fall Honor Roll in Aria McComber, Gabbie Heller, and Dirige.
Alexis Dirige capped off her four-year career under Jen Greeny as the programs all-time career digs leader with 2,152 total. Alexis also finished sixth overall in the Pac-12 in all-time career digs.
Coach Greeny has complied an overall record of 155-140 in nine seasons at WSU and 267-164 in 13 seasons as a head coach. She was also named the 2016 Pac-12 Coach of the Year, and led the Cougars this season to 23 overall victories, marking the highest back-to-back program season win totals since 1996-97.
“We are blessed to work a such an amazing institution,” said Greeny. “And we’re thankful that the administration believes in and supports WSU Volleyball.”
The Cougars will now get back to work during the spring, and look ahead the 2020 campaign to continue building towards yet another post-season run.
