World Record Corndog-Eating Attempt In Iowa

DES MOINES, IA — Thousands of people got out of bed early Thursday morning to eat a piece of history at the Iowa State Fair 2008 Corndog Chomp.

The fair wanted to become the new world-record holder for the most people eating a corndog at the same time.

Fair organizers started making the battered hotdogs at 4 a.m. and produced 8,400 corndogs in all. They were transported by golf carts to giant warmers at the Grandstand.

Organizers did encounter a big problem in their attempt to set the record, there weren’t enough corndogs to meet the demand.

By 8 a.m. the Grandstand was full with 10,000 people in all, another 5,000 people waited outside the gates and traffic was backed up for two miles.

Despite the slight setback the Iowa State Fair did make history, the 2008 Corndog Chomp set the record.

Fair officials plant to turn results of their event into the Guinness Book of World Records.
