Women helping Women luncheon inspires, empowers women

KXLY 4’s Chief Meteorologist Kris Crocker emceed the annual Women helping Women’s luncheon Tuesday.
The Women Helping Women fund is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women and children to create healthy families and vibrant communities.
This year’s inspiring guest speaker was Dr. Terarai Trent, who has an incredible story of perseverance.
She grew up in Zimbabwe, and taught herself to read and write. From there, she became a world-renowned scholar, humanitarian, and leader in the fight for quality education for all children.
“When we come together and recognize that we have special gifts, and we come together, we can heal the world,” said Dr. Trent. “And I think the power of changing this world in a positive manner lies in the hands of women. The silencing of one woman is the silencing of all of us.”
Dr. Trent has ties to the Inland Northwest. She lived in Soap Lake, and became a citizen in Spokane in 2006.
