Woman accused of throwing baby out window released
EVERETT, Wash. — A Snohomish County judge has released a mentally ill Everett woman who was being held in jail after allegedly throwing her 1-year-old nephew out a second-story window.
The Daily Herald reports Beteha Kebede had been waiting for treatment at the Western State Hospital for more than two months. The hospital has had a chronic shortage of treatment beds, which leaves some waiting in jail cells instead.
The judge said Kebede must seek treatment and wear a GPS bracelet so she can be monitored and is not allowed to be around children.
Police say Kebede told them she threw the boy out the window in Lynnwood July 3 to prevent someone from killing her or her children. The child suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeding.
