WIAA reclassification creates new three-tiered GSL
SPOKANE, Wash. — The W.I.A.A released their reclassification list for the next four year cycle and the change is massive in the Greater Spokane League and the Great Northern League.
The GSL absorbs the 2-A school and now has 16 teams between their 4-A, 3-A, and 2-A divisions.
Only three teams will compete at the 4-A level, those are Central Valley, Lewis & Clark, and Gonzaga Prep who will continue to opt up.
Ferris, University, and Mead will drop down to the 3-A level where they will join Mt. Spokane, North Central, and Cheney who moves up from 2-A. North Central will compete at the 2-A level in football only.
That leaves Shadle Park and Rogers who both drop down to 2-A and will compete against East Valley, West Valley, Pullman, and Clarkston.
Scheduling will be a challenge, but the 4-A schools will not play against the 2-A schools in league games.
These new divisions will take effect at the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
