Tens of thousands of ballots are waiting to be processed at the Spokane County Elections Office.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington’s Secretary of State and the Department of Health recommend that voters not lick their ballot return envelopes to seal them.

“Whether healthy or sick, please don’t lick,” reads the slogan, which comes from the Washington State Department of Health.

The warning comes as Washington grapples with nearly 30 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which has killed nine people so far in the state.
