Washington state senators introduce ‘basic income’ pilot program

OLYMPIA, Wash. — How would you like to make an extra $500 a month? A proposed pilot program would provide that cash for low income families in Washington.

Washington state senators introduced a new bill on Monday aimed at providing financial stability for low income individuals.

Senate Bill 6625 consists of creating a pilot program to provide families with access to affordable housing, job training programs, and a monthly $500 cash stipend.

If passed, 500 people will be randomly selected and each provided with $500 a month from January 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

The study will also record the impact this has on each persons mental and financial health.
