Washington State inks top-5 guard from Canada, Dishon Jackson also signs

Kyle Smith inks a top-5 guard from Canada in 2020

PULLMAN, Wash. – April 15 marks the start of high schoolers signing their National Letters of Intent. Washington State head coach Kyle Smith received one Wednesday from one of the top-five guards in Canada, Jefferson Koulibaly.

Koulibaly had to reclassify to the 2020 class, as he’s originally a member of the 2021 class. He verbally committed to WSU in February after taking a visit to Pullman.

According to Sports Illustrated, Koulibaly chose the Cougs over Maryland, Iowa, South Dakota, Georgetown, Missouri State and Holy Cross when he verbally committed. Today, he put pen to paper.

The reason why he’s regarded as a top-five guard, and player overall in Canada, is because he averaged 30 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals a game for Lincoln Prep in Ontario, Canada this season.

On Thursday, Dishon Jackson also sent in his National Letter of Intent to play for WSU.

One of the highest rated recruits in program history, Jackson, a 6-10 center from St. Patrick-St. Vincent, gives the Cougs another long athletic big man to patrol the paint in the Pac-12. As a senior, Jackson led the Bruins to the Division II NorCal State Championship game after going 26-11 on the year. Overall he averaged 13.8 points and 9.5 rebounds while adding 2.9 blocks per game. In the section championship game, Jackson went for 15 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks to defeat top-seeded Branson and secure the title for the Bruins. As a freshman, Jackson and the Bruins won a state title while the team took home its first section title his sophomore season. Jackson becomes the first player from SPSV to sign with a DI school straight out of high school. On the AAU circuit he plays for the West Coast Elite Nor Cal averaging 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

“Dishon is someone who I have seen play and develop since his freshman year of high school,” said Smith. “He has great size, length and skill for a frontcourt player. He has an ability to play facing the basket which allows him to utilize his passing and dribbling. He is very young for his grade and we think he has very good potential as he grows into his body. Adding Dishon and Efe to our returning frontcourt players gives us depth, size, length and athleticism to compete in the Pac-12.”
