A Pacific Crest Trail hiker from Washington state who was reported overdue has been found safe in California.

The National Park Service says 67-year-old Stephen McGuire hiked into Devils Postpile National Monument on Monday and was contacted by rangers.

McGuire was described as tired and hungry, but did not need any emergency assistance.

McGuire’s family reported him overdue on May 25. He had last called them from atop Mount Whitney, about 145 miles south of Devils Postpile.

The National Park Service says his progress along the Pacific Crest Trail had been delayed by storms at high elevations of the Sierra Nevada.

The trail runs through California, Oregon and Washington.
