Wash. Official: 2 Dead In Climbing Accident
GOLDENDALE, WA — A spokeswoman for Washington State Parks says two people are dead in a climbing accident at Horsethief Butte in the Columbia River Gorge.
Virginia Painter told The Columbian the accident happened at 12:57 p.m. Sunday.
KGW.com in Portland, Ore., said the victims were a man and his sister-in-law, but Painter couldn’t confirm that. KGW.com said the pair fell 35 feet from the top of a rock wall.
Horsethief Butte is a climbing area at Columbia Hills State Park on the Columbia River. The park is about 85 miles east of Vancouver.
