WALL-E Tops `Wanted’ At Box Office
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A lonely little robot made millions of friends – and millions of dollars – over the weekend, as “WALL-E” earned top spot at the box office with a $62.5 million haul.
The Pixar Animation tale of a robot toiling away on a long-abandoned Earth finished ahead of Angelina Jolie’s assassin thriller “Wanted.” Its second place take was $51.1 million, the most lucrative opening ever for a Jolie film.
Rounding out the Top 5: “Get Smart,” “Kung Fu Panda” and “The Incredible Hulk.”
In total, the top 12 movies took in over $179 million dollars, up 22 percent from the same weekend last year, when Pixar’s “Ratouille” opened with $47 million.
Revenues climbed for the fifth straight weekend.
