Voice Of The Cougars Wins National Award

SPOKANE — Spokane icon and long-time sports announcer Bud Nameck has been selected for the 2008 top award from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Nameck will be honored on May 2nd with the Washington State Sportscaster of the Year award.

“It’s very exciting to be honored by your peers,” Nameck said when he learned of the honor. “I am grateful for the consideration, and want to congratulate John Blanchette of the Spokesman-Review for again winning Sportswriter of the Year for Washington.”

The veteran sportscaster has been with the KXLY Broadcast Group since 1982 and currently serves as the Washington State University Men’s Basketball play-by-play announcer, a position he has held for 15 years.  

He is also the program director for AM 700 “The Ticket.”

Nameck served as KXLY News4’s TV Sports Director from 1982 and 1995 and was the Morning Show co-host on KXLY 920 News for 10 years.

The awards ceremony will be held in Salisbury, North Carolina.
