Virginia man crashes newly purchased $300K sports car

Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, responded to a crash Saturday that totaled a British sports car worth about $300,000.
The Washington Post reported the driver had owned the McLaren 720S for less than 24 hours before he hit a tree. Police said excessive speed was the cause of the crash. They said the man was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening. His name was not released.
The police department posted a photo of the wrecked vehicle on its Facebook page with the comment, “Purchased Friday. Totaled Saturday. This McLaren 720S, costing around $300,000, was destroyed today in Great Falls because of speed.”
Police said the crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. Saturday. They added on Facebook, “A reminder to slow down, or it could cost you.”
Forbes reported the new-car price for a McLaren 720S begins at $284,475.
