Verner Sworn In As Spokane’s Mayor

SPOKANE — Mary Verner is now the 43rd Mayor of Spokane.

She took the oath of office this evening. Verner beat Dennis Hession in the general election earlier this month. Her swearing-in ceremony included a song by her daughter, and a Native American prayer and drumming. She leaves her job as the Executive Director of the Upper Columbia United Tribes.

She told the crowd she is ready to take office.

“I am tremendously grateful for this opportunity. I take my place in support of my city. I submit myself to service to you the members of my community and I look forward to serving you as your mayor,” Verner said.

Verner and her new management team officially start work Wednesday.
