Vandals Lose To UC-Irvine 69-55

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Darren Fells had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead UC-Irvine to a 69-55 victory over Idaho on Saturday.

Marcus McIntosh and Patrick Sanders added 13 points apiece as UC Irvine (12-14) shot 54 percent from the field in the second half.

The Anteaters shot just 40 percent in the first half, missing seven of its first 10 shots from the field to open the game, part of ESPN’s Bracket Buster weekend.

Michael Crowell scored 21 points for Idaho (6-19). The Vandals shot 38 percent (19 for 49) from the field. They got as close as six points at 43-37 with 8:47 left in the game when Crowell made two free throws.

Irvine went on a 14-2 run capped by a lay-up by Fells with 4:15 left to put the game out of reach.
