Vandals Hit The Practice Field

MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho kicked off their fall practice Tuesday, and there is plenty of optimism inside Vandals’ camp.

Head coach Robb Akey is entering his second year on the job, and is coming off an ’07 season in which his team won only once.

But this year’s version returns 16 starters, and for the first time in 3 years, they won’t be learning a new system. That’s good reason to believe this team could climb the ladder a bit in the WAC, but for now, it’s just great to be on the field again.

“You only play so much golf in the summertime, and this is always in the back of your head, you can’t wait to get the new season started, so I’m very happy that the day is here, we finally get out on the field, and it’s kind of, this time of year, it keeps getting better, because in two more days we can put shoulder pads on, and in four more days, we can put full pads on, next Monday, we can start having two-a-days, so it just keeps getting better,” Akey said.

Starting Wednesday, the Vandals will practice at 9 am through the rest of the week.
