Vandals’ Farquhar, Walker named 1st Team All-WAC

Idaho women fall in NCAA opener

Three University of Idaho football players earned all-Western Athletic Conference honors with seniors Trey Farquhar (kicker) and Gary Walker (safety) first-team selections.

They are joined by teammate Bobby Cowan, the Vandals’ senior punter, who was a second-team choice.

Farquhar, a Lou Groza Award semifinalist as a senior and a Groza Award Watch list member as junior, leaves Idaho as the most successful field goal kicker in school history. His 11 field goals of 50 or more yards (long was 55) is a Vandal record. He also is the career record holder for field goal percentage (71.4), field goals attempted (84) and field goals made (60). He is second on the conversions attempted list (135) and also second on the conversions made list (132).

Walker, who was the Vandals’ leading tackler in 2012 with 99 total stops, wraps up his Vandal career ranked 12 th on the all-time tackles list with a total 295. He was the No. 2 tackler in 2011 with 109. He had double-digit tackle outing in three games in 2012 – 13 vs. New Mexico State, 12 at Louisiana Tech and 10 at Bowling Green State.

Like Farquhar, Cowan etched his name in the Vandal record books and was a 2011 Football Writers Association of America All-American. He is the career punting average leader (44.7) as well as the record-holder for career punts (259) and career punting yards (11,570). He also has the single-season mark for punting yards (4,084 in 2011) after tying the record for single-season punts (88 in 2011).
