Vandals cause significant damage to SpokAnimal vet clinic during attempted break-in

SPOKANE, Wash. — Police are investigating an attempted break-in at SpokAnimal late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
Executive Director Dori Peck said the vandals busted a double-pane window and microscopes at the shelter’s veterinary clinic.
Peck said police came out to the shelter to look at the damage and believe a pickaxe was used to break the window. Peck believes the vandals also used a drill, which went through one of their electrical outlets.
“We’re lucky there wasn’t also a fire,” Peck said.
Peck said they do not have an exact dollar estimate, but believe at least $1,000 worth of damage was done.
“Windows are expensive and each microscope costs a few hundred dollars,” Peck said.
Over the weekend, SpokAnimal was one of a handful of local shelters that participated in the nationwide Clear the Shelters event. None of the animals at the shelter were injured in the attempted break-in.
