US Man To Arrive Monday In Germany For Nazi Trial

BERLIN — The Germany Justice Ministry says an alleged former Nazi guard is expected to be deported in the coming days from the United States to Germany.

John Demjanjuk, a Ukrainian immigrant who turns 89 on Friday, is accused in a German arrest warrant of 29,000 counts of acting as an accessory to murder while working as a guard at a Nazi death camp during World War II.

He now lives in Cleveland, Ohio.

Justice Ministry spokesman Ulrich Staudigl said Thursday that Demjanjuk is expected to arrive in Munich on Monday.

Demjanjuk says he is in poor physical condition and that being sent to Germany would be inappropriate and degrading treatment. His son has said Demjanjuk suffers from chronic kidney disease.
