US House candidates to debate in Billings

Democrat John Lewis and Republican Ryan Zinke are scheduled to face off in a debate in Billings with just five weeks to go in the race for Montana’s sole U.S. House seat.

The hour-long event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Montana State University-Billings Petro Theater. It’s hosted by The Billings Gazette and Yellowstone Public Radio. Libertarian Party candidate Mike Fellows was not invited.

The candidates are vying to replace U.S. Rep. Steve Daines, who is leaving after one term to run for the U.S. Senate.

Zinke is a former Navy SEAL and state senator. His campaign says he’ll focus on how government regulation is hindering the economy.

Lewis was a longtime aide to former Sen. Max Baucus. His campaign says he’ll talk about energy, agriculture, workforce training and campaign reform.
