US-12 between Greer and Kamiah could open as soon as Saturday

GREER, Idaho — US-12 between Greer and Kamiah could open as soon as Saturday, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.
ITD said the stretch of highway will reopen if there are no additional slides.
“We are expecting rain in the next day, but we are optimistic that there will be enough of a break in the weather to prevent more slides and allow us to reopen the road,” said Operations Manager Bob Schumacher.
That said, there will be restrictions in place for drivers. Drivers will be slowed to 35 mph for less than two miles near the worst of the slide at milepost 63. ITD said that section of road is still covered by a thin layer of mud that could become slippery when wet.
On Friday, crews continued to clear ditches, unclog culverts and haul material off the road. The highway will be monitored by maintenance forces throughout the weekend.
