U.S. Highway 195 Closed In Whitman County

PULLMAN – Highway 195 between Pullman and the Idaho state line was closed for about a day, however it reopened late Monday morning.

The road was closed early Sunday due to blowing and drifting snow after the Washington Department of Transportation reported that snow drifts had accumulated on the road in excess of five feet. A snowplow was stuck at one point and several slideoffs were reported Sunday morning.

Highway 195 was scheduled to reopen Sunday at 9 p.m., but that deadline was extended under the road conditions, which hadn’t improved as much as anticipated Sunday afternoon and evening.

The road was finally made passable Monday morning, and reopened at 11 a.m.

While 105 is once again open to through traffic, conditions remained very slick Monday morning. Washington State Patrol advices that compact snow makes up the majority of that stretch of highway and there is ice in places as well. They advise that motorists travel through the area with caution.

State Route 272 from Colfax to the Idaho state line was also closed due to drifting snow. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office warned drivers Sunday that roads in the area are nearly impassable and drivers should plan on delays, detours and road closures.

SR272 reopened at noon Monday.
