Two Valley Apartments Damaged By Fire

SPOKANE VALLEY — Spokane Valley fire crews have extinguished a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex at 4th and Sullivan, near Central Valley High School.  At least two units have been damaged by the fire.

The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. by a passerby at the Sunrise Village Apartments on 4th Avenue, near Sullivan Road.  When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found that a third-floor balcony was burning and had spread into the attic of the apartment building.  It took about 30 minutes for crews to bring the fire under control.

Two units were heavily damaged by the fire.  The Red Cross is helping a couple in one apartment with shelter and other items.  The residents of the other damaged apartment are staying with friends.

Spokane Valley fire investigators believe the fire was caused by smoking materials left on the balcony.
