Two passengers critically injured in high-speed crash in North Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — Two people were critically injured in a high-speed car crash near Wellesley and Assembly.

According to Spokane Police, an officer was patrolling North Spokane in the Garland/Ash area, when he watched a car fly past him at close to 80 miles per hour.

The officer tried to flag the car down, but could not even catch up to the car before it rounded the corner at Belt and disappeared.

Minutes later, police and fire crews were dispatched to a crash at Assembly and Wellesley. Initial calls reported that two people were trapped in the car, which had caught fire. By the time emergency crews arrived, the fire had been put out, but two passengers were still trapped.

The Police Department reports that damage to the vehicle was extensive, and the two men in the car were extricated and transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Daryn White, only sustained minor injuries from the crash.

Police determined that White may have been under the influence of alcohol, so they called in a Drug Recognition Expert to get a search warrant for White’s blood sample.

Once White was released from the hospital, he was booked into the Spokane County Jail on two counts of vehicular assault and a charge of eluding police.
