Two Moses Lake parents shot by 14-year-old son

A Moses Lake teen is in jail accused of shooting his parents at their home Friday night.
Just before 10 p.m. Friday, Moses Lake police received a 911 call reporting gunshots fired inside a home in the 500 block of East Battery.
When police arrived, they discovered a husband and wife injured inside the home.
The man and woman were each loaded into an ambulance and taken to hospitals out of the area.
Police then arrested the couple’s 14-year old son and recovered a weapon.
Arnold Valdez, who lives across the street, watched as the boy was loaded into a police car.
“They brought him out after the ambulances left, he was wrapped in a blanket. didn’t look like he was wearing much underneath,” Arnold Valdez said
Emanuel Schaible said the boy seemed nice, often helping him with yard work and shovel snow out of his driveway.
“I don’t know, whatever possessed, what went wrong,” Emanuel Schaible said.
“Shocked really, this is a nice neighborhood, very nice,” he added.
The boy was a student at Moses Lake Christian Academy. Stephanie Voigt, Interim Director at the school received a call about the shooting early Saturday morning.
“I think honestly we are all in shock,” Voigt said.
“It’s been a difficult day for our family really is what we are here, we’re a very tight knit community and so it’s shocking to all of us,” she added.
The school is holding a parent meeting Saturday night at 6 p.m. to keep them up to date on the shooting and how to talk to their kids about it. Voigt said they plan to have grief counselors on hand when kids return to school Monday morning.
“I don’t know how anyone comes to grips with this. It’s a tragedy for the family and for the community, not just Moses Lake Christian Academy but for Moses Lake as a community,” Voigt said.
The boy will most likely make his first court appearance Monday.
