Two Killed In Whitman County Collision

DUSTY, WA – Two elderly people were killed in Whitman County Wednesday morning when a semi truck driver crossed over the center line and crashed head-on into their vehicle.

The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 26 between milepost 122 and 123 at about 10:30 a.m. Several hours after the accident, all traffic was blocked on Highway 26 near the tiny town of Dusty.

The truck driver, 56-year-old Larry Meyer of Endicott, was heading east hauling an empty waste management trailer when he said he had a “coughing fit” and drifted into oncoming traffic. Meyer was not injured, however he was taken to the hospital to be undergo evaluation and a mandatory blood draw.

Investigators said that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

The identities of the two deceased individuals has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
