TSA sees increase in passengers bringing guns to security
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Trasnportation Security Administration says it has seen an increases of passengers bringing weapons to the security checkpoint at the Spokane International Airport.
The agency says in the last three weeks nine passengers habe brought guns to the TSA security checkpoint. All the guns were loaded. A spokesperson for the TSA says in most cases of passngers bringing a gun to the checkpoint, there is also a bullet in the chamber.
The most recent incidents happened this last Friday and Saturday. The first incident was on February 17. In all instances, the gun was discovered during x-ray screening.
All the passengers were cited. The penalty for carrying a gun to the security checkpoint starts at $2,000 and can go as high as $13,333.
No parts of a gun may travel through TSA either. Guns, ammunition and any parts of a weapon must be in a checked bag and declared by the passenger. The gun must also be unloaded and carried in a locked, hard-sided case. Ammunition should travel in the same box as the unloaded gun.
