Tropical Storm Fay Moves In On Florida Keys
KEY WEST — Tropical Storm Fay is moving over Cuba Monday morning.
It’s expected to be near hurricane strength by the time it gets close to the Florida Keys Monday night. Schools are closed and will be again Tuesday as the storm passes by.
A hurricane watch is posted for most of the Keys and along Florida’s west coast to Tarpon Springs. So far there hasn’t been much of a rush to get out of town, and many people are simply ignoring a mandatory evacuation order for visitors.
Aside from wind damage, most of the islands sit at sea level and could see some limited flooding from the storm surge.
Fay is blamed for five deaths in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
