Troops Kill 36 Taliban Near Kandahar

ARGHANDAB, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan and Canadian forces have been moving into villages outside Kandahar to root out Taliban fighters.

Officials say at least 36 Taliban militants have been killed in fighting just outside of southern Afghanistan’s largest city. Another 12 militants were killed in another district.

A Kandahar provincial official says hundreds of families had fled to the city, and that some of the villages have already been cleared of Taliban.

Elsewhere in Afghanistan, four British soldiers died in a bombing of their patrol vehicle. At least one soldier was wounded.
