Tillie scores 22 as Gonzaga hammers BYU 92-69 at home

Killian Tillie scored 22 points as the No. 1 Zags beat BYU for the sixth consecutive game — 22 points from Killian Tillie help the Zags to their 20th win of the season.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The BYU Cougars came to the Kennel hoping to knock the No. 1 Bulldogs off the top of the polls, spoil their 33-game winning streak at home and show a top 5 high school recruit visiting for Gonzaga that the WCC isn’t just run by the Zags.

None of those things happened Saturday night. The Cougars were missing their leading scorer and rebounder in Yoeli Childs, and they also ran into the same problem 19 teams that have gone before them faced. If you want to stop the Zags, you have to stop six double-digit scorers.

The first half was back-and-forth to start, but Gonzaga took their largest lead of the game when a Killian Tillie three put them up 13 points with five minutes left in the half. He led all scorers in the first 20 minutes with 14 points.

The Cougars clawed back to within six points right after halftime after a Jake Toolson three, but Gonzaga kept pulling away.

With five minutes remaining, they took a 20-pt lead that they wouldn’t give up. TJ Haws started his usual scoring tare, but the Bulldogs answered each time.

Tillie led all scorers with 22 points and added 10 rebounds, but four other Zags joined him in double figures. Corey Kispert poured in 19 mostly in the second half, Joel Ayayi and Admon Gilder Jr. scored 14 each, and Ryan Woolridge added 11.

Gonzaga improves to 20-1, 6-0 in WCC play. They extend the nation’s longest home game winnings streak for 34.
