Tigers lose Miguel Cabrera for rest of season
The Detroit Tigers will have to play out the rest of the season without Miguel Cabrera after the slugger ruptured his left biceps tendon Tuesday night.
Cabrera left the third inning of a 6-4 home loss to the Minnesota Twins. He will have season-ending surgery later this week, manager Ron Gardenhire announced after the game.
Cabrera immediately dropped his bat and grabbed his upper left arm after swinging at a 1-1 pitch from Twins starter Jake Odorizzi. He then walked to the dugout with his arm limply by his side.

Earlier this season he missed three games with spasms in the same biceps tendon. He also missed 26 games with a hamstring strain and back tightness.
Cabrera still has $154 million left on an eight-year contract extension he signed in 2014 that runs through 2023.
A Triple Crown winner in 2012, the 35-year-old has also won two MVP awards and four batting titles in his career so far. For his career, he has hit for a .316 batting average with 2,676 hits and 465 home runs, but hit a career-worst .249 last season with 16 homers.
He was hitting .299 on the season with 40 hits, three home runs, 22 RBIs and 27 strikeouts.
