Three Missiles Hit Town Held By Islamic Extremists

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Witnesses say three missiles have slammed into a town in Somalia held by Islamic extremists, destroying a home and injuring at least eight people.

The missiles that struck the town near the Kenyan border came from military planes.

Last year, the U.S. shelled suspected Al-Qaida targets in Somalia, one of the most lawless and violent countries in the world. The U.S. military says it wasn’t aware of today’s missile strike.

Somalia has been mired in chaos since 1991, when warlords overthrew the country’s dictator and then turned on each other.
