One dead, two injured in crash near Craig Road in Airway Heights area

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — A woman was killed, and two passengers suffered minor injuries in a crash near Airway Heights on Monday.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says an SUV crashed into a power pole just before 5 p.m.

Power lines were hanging low to the ground and were only held up by neighboring poles.

A woman, who was driving the car, was extricated and taken to the hospital, but later succumbed to her injuries.

A female passenger and toddler were also in the car and taken to the hospital, but were released after being treated for minor injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says the SUV was traveling north and trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, but encountered another vehicle coming south.

Initial information indicates the SUV lost control moving back into the right lane, left the roadway, and stuck the power pole.

The Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the vehicle that was passed has been contacted and may have critical information for investigators.
