The latest: Rape trial against former Spokane officer

The rape trial against Gordon Ennis, a former Spokane police sergeant, entered its third day Thursday.

Ennis is accused of attacking a fellow officer at a house party in the home of a third officer.

A forensic scientist with the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab took the witness stand first.

She testified that male DNA was present in the victim’s rape kit, but there was not enough DNA to make a match to the defendant.

The victim testified earlier this week that she had drank too much, passed out, and woke up with Ennis’ hand down her pants.

The forensic scientists said the DNA findings were consistent with that of other digital penetration cases, adding that the victim’s DNA could not be confirmed or ruled out on a swab of Ennis’ left and right hand.
