Congress to weigh permanent protections for US grizzlies

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Lawmakers in Congress are scheduled to take up legislation protecting grizzly bears against future hunting as federal and state officials appeal a court ruling that blocked planned hunts in Wyoming and Idaho.A hearing on the proposed measure is scheduled for Wednesday before a House Natural Resources subcommittee. It also allows grizzlies to be reintroduced to Native American lands and puts new restrictions on the killing of bears that attack livestock.

Bald eagle died of lead poisoning in Montana's Glacier Park

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A bald eagle found in a national park in Montana died of lead poisoning.News outlets reported Tuesday that the female bird was discovered near a creek in Glacier National Park in February.Park biologists sent the emaciated bird's carcass to the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wisconsin, for evaluation after an initial assessment failed to find gunshot wounds or other trauma.
