Carlos Ramos, the umpire at the center of the storm surrounding Serena Williams at the U.S. Open, was "thrown under a bus" by tennis' governing bodies, says a former top-level umpire.
Speaking about Saturday's controversial US Open final, Billie Jean King, the tennis legend and equal rights advocate, told CNN's Christiane Amanpour that Serena Williams was "out of line," but umpire Carlos Ramos aggravated the situation.
The US Open has fined Serena Williams $17,000 for three code violations during her loss in Saturday's women's singles final, the United States Tennis Association said.
