SVFD Captain Tim Cruger memorial services

The Spokane Valley Fire Department invites other fire, police and EMS agencies to attend the memorial services for Captain Tim Cruger.

Captain Cruger’s ceremony will be performed with a full Line of Duty Death honors by the SVFD and IAFF Local 876.

Uniformed personnel from other agencies are welcome to attend, and are asked to wear either Class A or Class B uniforms.

Captain Cruger was hired by the SVFD in 1986, and served as a firefighter, engineer, lieutenant and captaion for over 29 years. He was a second generation firefighter who spent the majority of his career proudly serving the citizens of the Spokane Valley area from Station 7 on Evergreen Road.

He retired in April of 2015, and soon after developed kidney cancer which spread to his colon, lungs and brain.

Due to the high incidence of specific cancers in firefighters from exposure on the job, Captain Cruger was deemed a Line of Duty Death in accordance with the Washington State occupational disease laws.

His services will be at 1 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Valley Assembly Church in Spokane Valley. Uniformed personnel who would like to assist in the Honor Corridor for Captain Cruger are asked to arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. Uniformed personnel who are attending the memorial services are also asked to arrive to be seated prior to the start of the 1 p.m. service.

If there are any questions regarding the services call the SVFD’s Administration Office at 509-928-1700, and ask for your message to be forwarded to Captain Josh Loftin.
