Suspicious man prompts brief lockdown at Kootenai Elementary, police say

SANDPOINT, Idaho — The Sandpoint Police Department has asked for help identifying a man who caused a brief lockdown at Kootenai Elementary.

According to a Facebook post from the department, the suspicious man was seen near the school around 12:55 p.m. on Friday. It was reported he followed a student home on Thursday.

Sandpoint Police described the man as being in his 30s, with red facial hair. He was last seen wearing a brown jacket and jeans.

Police said extra patrols are being conducted at the school and in surrounding areas. Anyone with information should contact dispatch at 208-265-5525.
