Suspect Nabbed In Early Morning Stabbing

SPOKANE — An Alton’s Tires employee was stabbed Thursday morning near a dumpster behind the business at Wellesley and Division. After looking for the attacker for much of the day, police detained a suspect Thursday afternoon that they believe to be responsible.

The stabbing occured at about 6:40 a.m. Thursday. The employee noticed smoke coming from the dumpster and went over to investigate.

When he reached the dumpster, he found a transient there and asked the man to leave. When the man refused, the two got into an argument and the employee turned around to call police.

At that point, the transient hit the Alton’s employee over the head and stabbed him in the back.

The victim was transported to Deaconess Hospital here he was being treated for the stab wound. He was listed as in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries later Thursday morning.

A suspect was detained Thursday afternoon and police were working to make contact with the victim and confirm that the man in custody was indeed the man responsible for the attack.
