Troopers blocked the area from traffic throughout the night. Traffic was blocked in both directions on the corridor from Highway 395 to Highway 2. The southbound Division Street on-ramp on Highway 395 was also closed.

Sheriff’s deputies and Spokane police tried to talk with the 19-year-old, in hopes of getting him down to safety.

Just before 6:30 a.m., the man’s father showed up to try and talk with his suicidal son.

Firefighters said the man safely got down from the bridge shortly after. He was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.
