Suicidal man closes North Spokane Corridor for eight hours
A man threatening to jump from the Wandermere Bridge kept the North Spokane Corridor closed for about eight hours Friday morning.
Washington State Patrol troopers and Spokane County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man on top of the bridge around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Suicidal man closes North Spokane Corridor For 8 HoursTroopers blocked the area from traffic throughout the night. Traffic was blocked in both directions on the corridor from Highway 395 to Highway 2. The southbound Division Street on-ramp on Highway 395 was also closed.
Sheriff’s deputies and Spokane police tried to talk with the 19-year-old, in hopes of getting him down to safety.
Just before 6:30 a.m., the man’s father showed up to try and talk with his suicidal son.
Firefighters said the man safely got down from the bridge shortly after. He was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.
