Study says dogs in shelters prefer reggae music

The journal Physiology and Behavior has released a new study suggesting dogs in animal shelters prefer listening to reggae and soft rock compared to other musical genres.

The Huffington Post reports scientists had dogs wear heart monitors while listening to different styles of music and monitored its effect on stress levels. Researchers discovered reggae and soft rock showed “the highest positive changes in behavior.”

“We want the dogs to have as good an experience as the can in a shelter,” University of Glasgow professor Neil Evans said.

The Scottish SPCA now plans to install sound systems in all of its kennels.
