A stretch of US 904 west of Cheney was closed Friday afternoon following reports of a suspicious-looking device.

Spokane Area Traffic provided this tweet.

Emergency closure on SR 904 in both directions from MP 0.5 South Malloy Prairie road to MP 6 at Graham road due to police activity between Tyler and Cheney. No detour available in Tyler, Graham Rd traffic being diverted to Salnave Rd. Expect delays.

Deputies arrived to investigate and, unsure of what the item was, called the bomb squad for a closer look.

Following a nearly two-hour long process, the item was determined not dangerous and the road has since been reopened.
