Stray Bullet Strikes Spokane Man

SPOKANE — Spokane Police Monday night were searching for a shooting suspect after a man was shot in the hand while sitting in the front yard of his home in the 4300 block of East Longfellow.

“It’s getting really scary around here when I can’t sit in my own front yard without a bullet flying through the air,” Raymond George said after the bullet hit his left index finger.

George was sitting with his wife and a friend when the bullet hit him. He actually didn’t realize he had been shot until he looked down and saw the bullet on the ground in front of him and noticed the cut on his finger.

“It could have hit my wife,” George said of the bullet. “It could have hit my caregiver. It could have hit this little girl [across the street]. It’s not something to be taken lightly.”

Neighbors say they saw three people up on Beacon Hill and heard shots being fired up there before Raymond George was shot. Police combed Beacon Hill in search of those three individuals but no word from the Police Department that the suspects were found.

Paramedics came to the residence and treated George on scene.

To add insult to his injury, Monday was Raymond George’s 66th birthday.
