Stabbing Suspect, 16, To Be Tried As Adult

SPOKANE — A 16-year-old arrested for the stabbing of another teen at a South Hill bus stop Monday will be prosecuted as an adult.

Michael Bellinger was booked into the juvenile detention center Monday night but because of his criminal history will be prosecuted as an adult.

Police say Bellinger knifed an 18-year-old as he waited for the bus at 29th and Grand. The attack was supposed to be in retaliation for a beating and robbery that happened back in December however Bellinger, who is a gang member, allegedly stabbed the wrong person.

The victim who suffered puncture wounds in the hip and thigh was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Bellinger has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
