Spokane’s ice ribbon injury report
SPOKANE, Wash. — Despite huge crowds in the opening month, Spokane’s new downtown ice ribbon reports very few injuries so far.
Fianna Dickson, spokesperson for Spokane Parks, says 34 injuries were reported to the city in the first 27 days. That’s an average of 1.25 injuries per day. Most of the injuries have been things like sprained wrists. This does not include injuries where someone did not need assistance from the parks department or public safety.
More than 30,000 people have taken turns on the ice since it opened in early December. The ribbon, at the southwest corner of the park across from city hall, is the first major feature of the voter-approved Riverfront Park renovation.
