Spokane service campaign celebrates largest impact ever

SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane announced unprecedented success for an annual volunteer initiative called Spokane Gives.
According to city officials, 20,555 volunteers reported 123,073 hours of volunteer service during April. Organizers noted that using the federal volunteer equivalent of $24.69, this equated to a volunteer impact of $4,038,672.37.
This year’s projects included the KXLY 4 Extreme Team’s efforts to update the Hope House, in Spokane.
The city website reveals the initiative started in 2014 as a way to recognize and encourage compassion, the impact it has on the quality of life, and the foundation it can built. City leaders hope the actions in April will spur more volunteerism through the year.
