Spokane Regional Air Support Rescue 3 saves man from avalanche in Columbia County

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Spokane Regional Air Support Unit Rescue 3 assisted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office in saving a man from an avalanche on Table Rock Mountain.

On December 2, Rescue 3 says a man was swept off his snow bike in the avalanche. The victim was believed to have a broken or dislocated hip.

The aircrew located the 47-year-old man in need of rescue within an hour, and medics were lowered to the ground to assess the patient’s needs.

The man was later hoisted off the hillside and taken to a nearby Life Flight helicopter.

The man had actually suffered a broken femur near his hip, and he is currently out of surgery and expected to recover.
