Spokane Public Schools Board Director Retiring
SPOKANE — After 13 years of service with Spokane Public Schools Christie Querna is retiring as Board Director. Querna began her tenure on the board in 1995.
“It has been both an honor and a privilege to have served with wonderful board colleagues and to represent a district with such a competent, caring and professional staff committed to serving our students and community,” Querna said.
School Board President Garret Daggett noted Querna’s long advocacy of youth. “Christie has been tireless in her belief that all students deserve equal access to the highest quality of education. Her contributions to our community go back to her involvement in parent/teacher groups and on district advisory committees and extend to numerous non-profit organizations,” Daggett said.
Querna has twice served as board president and has been instrumental in major changes affecting the school district.
During Querna’s tenure, Spokane Public Schools has seen a new focus on teaching and learning through enhanced professional development and teacher collaborative, as well as mentoring programs and instructional coaches.
Querna’s last board meeting will be September 10. The vacancy will be filled by appointment until the next election in November 2009.
