Spokane Police officers cleared in 2017 shooting of suicidal man with knife

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office will not charge three Spokane Police officers who shot a man near Dalton and Perry St. on May 7, 2017. A fourth officer that responded to the incident and used a taser on the suspect does not face charges either.
Three officers fired their guns at Terry C. Wallette after he reportedly threatened them with a knife and threatened residents. It happened in the area of Perry and Dalton St. last year.
Prosecutors reviewed body cameras, surveillance videos, and witness testimony to determine that Lt. Dave McCabe, Cpl. Ron VanTassel, and Officer Julian Cedeno were justified in using deadly force. Investigators determined there was no evidence they were acting with malice.
Wallette survived the shooting and faces six counts of 2nd degree assault with a deadly weapon. He is a convicted felon and remains in jail.
